What is tennis elbow?

The medical term for tennis elbow is lateral epicondylitis. Others sometimes refer to it as elbow tendonitis. It is an injury that primarily affects the outer part or lateral side of your elbow. It usually starts out as a dull aching pain where your extensor tendon becomes inflamed and irritated. We know that tennis elbow is caused by overuse of the tendons and forearm muscles that work together to perform wrist extention movements. Causes

The repetitive extension of your wrist extensor muscles combined with the tight grip on some sort of object, which is usually required to complete a task is the cause of tennis elbow. The majority of cases actually occur in the workplace or from a simple hobby. It is important to note that you may also be using the wrong technique or have poor form when doing the repetitive action that has caused your injury. Symptoms

The most common symptoms of tennis elbow is pain and tenderness on the outside of the elbow. It is usually felt on the dominant arm. The outer/lateral side is usually tender to the touch and you may sometimes have pain that radiates down your forearm and into your wrist, hand or fingers. You may notice that your elbow pain increases when you grip or squeeze an object. Even simple tasks such as gripping a coffee mug, turning a doorknob or even shaking hands with someone causes pain in your elbow.
